When you can do this!

About

Would you like to join a men's choir to make your voice heard in the fight for fathers' rights?

The Sons of Quixote is the name of that choir.

Are you a father in the Bay Area representing yourself (*pro per*) in Family Court and fighting to remain present in your child’s life?

We are forming a choir of 25–30 fathers from across San Francisco, Contra Costa County, Oakland, and the greater Bay Area who are navigating the Family Court system without legal representation.

This group will come together over several months to:

* Learn and rehearse one song: *“The Impossible Dream”* from *Man of La Mancha*

* Share personal experiences in a supportive, confidential group setting

* Build solidarity with other fathers facing similar challenges

* Participate in the creation of a documentary film

The choir will culminate in a peaceful public performance on the steps of the Spinetta Family Law Center in Martinez, where participants will stand holding photographs of their children and perform together as part of a filmed demonstration and the finale of the documentary

This project titled "Tilting at Windmills: Fathers Finding Their Voices" will document the emotional journey of these fathers as they navigate the legal system, reclaim their narratives, and support one another in community.

Participation will include:

* On-camera interviews

* Group discussions

* Rehearsals

* Public performance

No prior singing experience is required.

This is an opportunity to:

* Be heard

* Connect with other fathers

* Share your story

* Contribute to a documentary exploring fatherhood, access, and resilience

If you are interested in participating or would like to learn more, please respond by filling out the contact information below.

In your message, make sure to let us know the ages of your children and how long you have been fighting in family court.

*Voices raised in unity. Stories shared in truth.*

Who am I?

My name is Jim Breen and I am a father who has represented himself in the Contra Costa Superior Court to get fair and equal access to Clara, my gorgeous daughter who is nonverbal and special needs.

In the past two years as a pro-per litigant, I've:

  • been accused of domestic abuse without evidence at my first custody hearing.  I had no legal counsel, there was no cross-examination or live testimony and there was no court reporter to document the accusation.

  • had my legal custody rights taken away due to more false allegations. They were restored after an evidentiary hearing five months later.

  • Was denied a request for a long cause hearing on the subject of domestic abuse charges after I won back my legal custody rights.

  • Was turned down when I filed a cease and desist order to stop my wife from making false allegations without evidence.  The court stated that order infringed upon her Freedom of Speech.

  • was just labeled as a vexatious litigant for fighting against accusations and to get access to my daughter.  I now have to get court approval before filing any orders because I "abused" the court system. This ruling is currently being appealed with the 1st Court of Appeal.

Besides my personal connection to this subject, I'm also a writer/producer/director who loves to tell stories.  This protest and the documentary about it are being designed to be a thing of beauty.  It's designed to celebrate fathers coming together not to scream in anger but to raise their voices to sing a song that will try to put their struggles into a recorded moment to be shared with the entire world.  To move and to entertain like any film but also to help advocate for changes in the family court system.

You can read my resume on IMDB to get a sense of my credits. I hope you can join this group to be part of this important story and help to change the family court in a way that respects fathers like you.
